A Family Restaurant
Mama's has been in the family for over 40 years. The name comes from Michael's mother; she is the original Mama. She had ten children and everyone loved her cooking, so it seemed like a good idea to open a little restaurant since she was already cooking for so many people! We've been in the same location in North Beach the entire time and have many loyal regulars with some who have been coming for 30 or 40 years. They bring their children and grandchildren; it's really wonderful.
The decor is what you would expect from a place called Mama's; we're small (we seat about 40 to 50 people) and it's bright, cheerful, and full of light. We have windows all the way around the outside of the restaurant offering views of the Washington Square Park next door.
Michael and Felicia bake all the breads and desserts, we grow our own tomatoes organically, and we make our own jams. We take pride in what we do. Everything is fresh with specials on the weekends. We have about 11 kinds of omelets, make our own pancake batter, and for the French toast, we bake different kinds of breads resulting in a wide variety of flavors. For example, banana nut bread makes an incredible banana nut French toast.
We strive to offer quality, consistency, and a cozy atmosphere and we hope you agree.
